Starting from 01.07., Associate Professor Ruslans Šmigins has been appointed as the acting Dean of the Faculty.
From July 1 of this year, Ruslans Šmigins, Associate Professor of the Institute of Engineering and Energetics, will start performing the duties of the Dean of the IITF.
Ruslans Šmigins studied at LLU and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, then in 2004 - a Master's degree in Engineering Sciences. In 2010, he obtained a Doctoral degree in Agricultural Engineering (research direction - biofuels). In 2017, he additionally obtained a Master's degree in Management Science (RTU).
He has been the director of the study program “Technical Expert”.
Currently, he leads the study program “Biosystems Machinery and Technologies”. Ruslans Šmigins also performs the duties of a leading researcher and is the author of more than 30 international publications indexed in the Scopus database. h-index: 6.
The current Dean, Professor Gatis Vitols, who has led ITF from 2015-2023 and IITF since 2023, will cease performing the duties of the Dean due to his appointment as Vice-Rector for Science at LBTU.
